"I am afraid that schools will prove to be wide gates to hell unless they diligently labor in explaining the Holy Scriptures, engraving them in the hearts of youth. I advise no one to place his child where the Scriptures do not reign paramount. Every institution in which men are not constantly occupied with the Word of God must become corrupt." ---Martin Luther

Emmaus School Celebrates 100 Years!

Indianapolis, IN (August 2003) - In 1903, a group of south side residents of Indianapolis decided to starts its own neighborhood church. Once the church s founded, one of the first priorities was to establish a school for the important task of providing quality Christian education for its members. Now, 100 years later, the tradition continues as Emmaus Lutheran School prepares to celebrate its centennial year. Not only will we be celebrating our 100th birthday, but also celebrating the love and forgives we have in knowing Jesus Christ as our Savior. "Celebrating Jesus" is our theme for this school year. We borrow church’s centennial verse of Acts 5:42 - "Day after day. ..proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ." Each month our students will study a different aspect of our Christianity, which we have reason to celebrate. These are the Apostles, Prayer, Righteousness, Offerings, Jesus’ Birth, the Gospel, Forgiveness, the Trinity, Victory, and Creation.

Emmaus has been blessed with great teachers, who are still remembered by many today for how important they were in influencing the students’ lives and helping to shape their Christianity. Today’s staff of our school is dedicated to continuing the enormous responsibility of educating your children and grandchildren, led by Principal Robert Groth, who also teaches 7th & 8th grades in the morning, and Pastor Lauterbach who teaches Confirmation to our 7th & 8th graders.

The last important members of our school staff are you. How do you help our school? Your weekly offering to church supports all of Emmaus Church’s ministries including your Christian school. You can volunteer to help at school during the day by tutoring students, running copies for the teachers, cleaning. etc.

There is also a fund you can contribute to which helps members of our church handle the high cost of tuition. If you can help with this important donation, please mark your envelopes for the "Emmaus School Financial Aid Fund". Finally, please continue to pray for our school’s ministry here at Emmaus. We continue to shepherd our member’s families and witness to others who have no church home. Many new Christians have been added to our church rolls because of the doctrine their children received in our school.
